Professional Literature

In the Professional Literature section, Philip Katz, MD provides an overview of the latest information about GERD. Dr. Katz is a graduate of Bowman Gray School of Medicine and is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He is chairman of the Division of Gastroenterology at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Katz’s research interests include all aspects of gastroesophageal reflux disease, including nocturnal recovery of gastric acid secretion during proton pump inhibitor therapy and esophageal pain perception. He has contributed to the publication of over 100 peer-reviewed papers, numerous abstracts, books, book chapters, and monographs.

The Patient Education section is presented by Edward Zurad, MD. Dr. Zurad is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College, is board certified in family practice and has certifications in geriatric medicine and gastrointestinal endoscopy. Dr. Zurad is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and a Master of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Dr. Zurad was named the 2002 Pennsylvania Family Physician of the Year and the 2003 Rural Health Leader of the Year. His research interests include GERD and gastrointestinal endoscopy, and he has written extensively on these topics.
